This is an outstanding trek in the remote eastern region of Nepal which offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed natural beauty and ecological diversity. The trail takes you from the lowlands of Tumlingtar on the Arun River, through one of the least explored areas in Nepal, to the base camp of Makalu. The trail follows the beautiful Barun river valley in the Makalu Base Camp (5000m). During the trek you will have spectacular views of the south face of Makalu, Everest and Lhotse .The Makalu conservation area is also a home to rare species of various birds and wild animals.

  • Day 1(Arrival in Kathmandu (1300 m) & transfer to hotel)
    Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by Red Carpet Tours and Travels representative and transferred to hotel. After check in, you can either take a rest or hang around in the city depending on your interest and time constraint.
  • Day 2(Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation)
    Today after breakfast, we start a guided sightseeing to historical and spiritual sites in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites that include the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambhunath) and Buddhists shrine (Buddhanath) which is one of the largest Stupas in the world. In the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion, introducing with your trekking guide. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions related to upcoming trekking. You might ask for any trekking gear for hiring or purchasing. Overnight in hotel
  • Day 3(Fly to Tumlingtar (400m) & trek to Khadbari)
    This is beginning day of the trek. In the morning we take domestic flight to Tumlingtar . Upon arrival at Tumlingtar after 40 minutes flight, we start our adventurous trek with our crew heading upward through the Kumal village to the Khadbari in the midst of the sub-tropical forest of Sal tree and agricultural farms along the way. Here at Khadbari we stay overnight at camp.
  • Day 4(Trek Khadbari to Chichila (1,800m))
    After breakfast we start our trek ascending to the ridge on a wide and well-used trail, reaching our lunch stop at Bhotebas. Then we walk through fertile land and forested path bringing us to the top of the small ridge at Chichila village for the overnight stay at camp.  Here we find few local houses with superb mountains views of Mt. Makalu and Khumbakarna range.
  • Day 5(Trek Chichile to Num (1,500m))
    Today our journey leads us through the cool and serene forest of rhododendron, oaks and hemlocks as we climb to the top of the ridge.  Then it is almost downhill walk for two hours to the Num which is a small village with about fifteen houses and a primary school on the large flat ground. During the trek we will have a good view of the mountains. Overnight at camp.
  • Day 6(Trek Num to Seduwa (1,493m))
    Today we walk downhill through terraced slopes towards the Arun River, nearly 800 meters below. The lower slopes of this narrow valley are densely forested and the paths are quite slippery. After reaching the foothills we cross the suspension bridge across the torrential Arun River.  Then we climb back out of the rain forest, have our lunch on the way and continue trek further uphill to Seduwa village with a small health post and a primary school.   • Day 7(Trek Seduwa to Tashi Gaun (2,200m))
    After breakfast we have a pleasant easy short walk through the country side and walk an uphill climb for an hour through the millet and rice fields taking us to the Tashi Gaon. We stay overnight at camp.
  • Day 8(Trek Tashi Gaun to Kauma (3510m))
    Today, we leave the human settlement for our destination. After Tashi Gaun we walk through the refreshing beautiful shade of the rhododendron and oaks forest, then leaving the dense forest coming to a summer pastures with traces of temporary made shepherd huts. From here onwards to Kahuma ridge is strenuous uphill climb, where tree lines also declines for the bushes of rhododendron and juniper. We'll stay overnight at tented camp with scenic mountain ranges during the moon light.
  • Day 9(Trek Kauma to Mumbuk (3,400m))
    This is superb view of snow capped mountains and the surrounding landscapes. Our trek follows a gradual trail with few ups and down pass through the Thulo Pokhari (big pond) and Sano Pokhari (small pond). In the heavy snow fall, the path from here can be quite misleading and it will be difficult to find the trail sometime. We walk further cross the pass of Keke La pass (4230m) Tutu-la (4,200m) where there is a chorten. Then we walk all downhill back to vegetation, a small clearing place for camping in the middle of the woods of pines, hemlock, birch and rhododendrons to reach at Mumbuk for the overnight
  • Day 10(Trek Mumbuk to Nehe Kharka (3,750m))
    The day begins with a sharp descent down a wooden narrow valley and continues on to cross the Barun Khola just beyond Tamatan Kharka. Then the trial goes unclear along much of the route. It can also be slippery with numerous and rock falls often, so you have to walk carefully. After this you follow the Barn Khola along its northern bank. Trial goes through the seasonal settlement of Yangri Kharka and a little aead is the Nehe Kharka for overnight stay.
  • Day 11(Trek Nehe Kharka to Sherson (4,600m))
    Today, our trek begins crossing the wooden bridge on the Barun River and walk on the boulders, where a large prayer wall is can be seen.  After 2-3 hours walk the vegetation gets thin, although the rhododendron, barberries, cotoneaster and juniper bushes keep on for some time. With a pleasant walk we get nearer to Sherson, where we have sight of the lower Barun glacier and the towering majestic Mt. Makalu. This is also the lower base camp of Mt. Makalu. There are number of stone enclosures at this high grazing ground with outstanding view of host of peaks, including the upper part of Makalu south face, and Mt. Baruntse (7,220m) and at Sherson we make camp for the night.
  • Day 12(Trek to Makalu Base Camp (5000m))
    Leaving Sherson we keep to the right in the gully, in which we gradually descend to a small pass 100 meters above Makalu Base Camp. Then, we descend to a stream and cross it on boulders to reach the base camp on the west bank of the river. From this point we will have magnificent views of the south face of Makalu if weather permits. An ascent of the large buttress rising from the base camp gives you magnificent views of Peak 6, 7, Baruntse, Lhotse and Everest. Overnight at camp
  • Day 13(Rest day at Makalu Base Camp for acclimatization)
    Today is the rest day for us for acclimatization. We will have full day rest at the camp or visit around some interesting hike and view points to explore. The most scenic walk would be taking a hike on the right side of the camp above for the closer view of Mt. Makalu, Barun Pokhari and the view of the rare face of Everest the Kanshung face with Lhotse. Overnight at camp
  • Day 14(Trek Makalu Base Camp to Yangle Kharka)
    After breakfast we retrace our steps to the end of the Barun valley and stay overnight at camp
  • Day 15(Trek Yangle Kharka to Mumbuk (3550m))
    First we  continue descending through the rock fall area and then climb up the rocky gully to the Mumbuk. Overnight at camp
  • Day 16(Trek Mumbuk to Khongma (3560m))
    From the steep hillside of Mumbuk where we had our campsite for the night on arrival from Yangle Kharka, we continue to retrace our way back. We cross Shipton La pass and descend to Khongma.
  • Day 17(Trek Khongma to Tashigaon (1700m))
    We make a long steep descent and descend across Arun river and camp at Tashigaon.
  • Day 18(Trek Tashigaon to Num (1500m))
    We retrace the same route up to Num. Today we ascend around 580 meters and again descend a 240 meter. Overnight at camp
  • Day 19(Trek Num to Chichira (1840))
    We retrace our route back to Chichira. Overnight at camp
  • Day 20(Trek Chichira to Mane Bhanjhyang (1100m))
    This day will bring us to Mani Bhanjhyang . Overnight at camp
  • Day 21(Trek Mane Bhanjhyang to Tumlingtar)
    Today is our last day of the trekking . We walk downhill and ultimately reach to Tumlingtar for lunch and the last overnight camp.  Of course, it is a great memorable adventure journey and your last evening will be celebrated with the trekking staff and porters being together in the great dinner party.   • Day 22(Fly Tumlingtar to Kathmandu)
    Today we fly to Kathmandu via Biratnagar or direct flight depends on the flight schedule and season. Upon arrival to Kathmandu you will be transferred to hotel and rest of the day you relax or stroll around.
  • Day 23(Farewell dinner in Kathmandu)
    On this pleasant day you may have full day at leisure either relax at hotel or explore around Thamel. Today Red Carpet Tours & Travels  offer you farewell dinner in Nepali typical Restaurant . Overnight in hotel
  • Day 24(Final Departure to your onward destination)
