Gokyo Lake Trekking

Gokyo lake trekking one of the most popular destination for trekkers. Gokyo Valley lies in the Everest Region about 20 miles away from Mt. Everest's summit. Trek to Gokyo Lake offers you a panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lotse, Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Cholatse and Tawachee.

The main attraction of this trekking route is that it will take you all over the Gokyo valley where you will enjoy the view of beautiful lakes, get to know about the lifestyle of Sherpas dwelling in that valley, splendid view of famous mountains, mesmarizing blue glacier lakes. etc.

Spring & Autumn are termed to be the best seasons for trekking in Gokyo valley.


  • Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1330m)
  • Day 2 Flight to Lukla (2,652m) Trek to Phakding - 3/4 hrs

  • Day 1(Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1330m))
    Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by Red Carpet Tours and Travels representative and transferred to hotel. After check in, you can either take a rest or hang around in the city depending on your interest and time constraint. In the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion, introducing with your Trekking guide. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions related to your trek program. Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 2(Flight to Lukla (2,652m) Trek to Phakding - 3/4 hrs)
    You will fly around 45 mins from Kathmandu airport to Lukla airport through the snow-capped Himalaya. Boarding passed out from the airport, your trekking starts. we trek downhill towards the Dudh Koshi (milky river), a raging river that flows from the glacier of the highest mountains. The trail is fairly easy and well-marked and moves around the fields of potatoes and wheat. We will pass through many traditional villages to reach Phakding. O/n at Phakding Guest house.
  • Day 3(Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) - 6/7hrs )
    After Breakfast, we start walking through pine forest, rhododendron and cultivated terraces. We cross and re-cross the thundering glacial river of the day before. We will often see groups of yaks carrying trek gear and goods being traded along the trail. We can also see Spectacular Mountain peaks like Kongde Ri (6,093 m) Thamserku (6,808m), and Nupla (5,885m), rise majestically above us throughout most of the day.
  • Day 4(Acclimatization day, day hike to Shyangboche (3,833m) - hrs Hike.)
    This is the day of acclimatization. Although if you are interested to hike in Shyanboche than we will do a short hike up to Everest View Hotel that offers you outstanding view of Majestic Mt. Everest (8848m) and Beautiful mountain Ama Dablam(6812m).
  • Day 5(Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,090 m) - 5/6 hrs)
    An Acclimatization day after, we begin the trek. We climb the hill to Khumjung and then descend to the east of the village down the broad Valley leading to the Dudh Koshi. The Gokyo route turns north, climbing above the more frequented route to Tengboche and Everest base camp. The two trails soon join and continue towards a large chorten on the ridge top at 3973m. This ridge descends from Khumbila. Again from Mong the trail descends in steep switchbacks down a sandy slope to the Dudh Koshi. The trail to Everest drops down the hill but we turn off here and climb to cross the Mon La before reaching Phortse Thanga where we will have our lunch. After lunch, the trail climbs steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forests from Phortse Thanga.Overnight at Dole Guest House.
  • Day 6(Dole to Maccherma (4,410 m)- 3/4 hrs)
    The trail goes steep as we climb through Gyele on to Lhabarma( 4330m). We then walk on the banks of the large stream of Luza (4340m), the trail continues to climb along the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machermo. O/n at Machhermo.
  • Day 7(Maccherma to Gokyo (4,750 m)- 5/6 hrs)
    At beginning we move to Pangka , drop slightly to a large cave area known as Nilibuk. We climb a steep rocky incline into the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first of the holy lakes. We soon arrive to another of the lake, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to Cho La - our route to Lobuche and Everest, later in the trek. The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore is the settlement of Gokyo. Walking by the side of the lake, magnificent scenery with the summits of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang reflected in its emerald green waters. O/n stay at Gokyo. Average trekking time is 5-6 hours.
  • Day 8(Trek to Gokyo - Ri and back to Gokyo (4,750 m) - 6/7 hrs)
    Today is the rest day at gokyo. Rest day provides us the chance to ascend to Gokyo Ri. The view around Gokyo is paradise, It is a two-hour climb to the top of the peak, providing a panoramic view of Everest, Makalu, Lotse Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Cholatse and Tawachee. O/n at Gokyo
  • Day 9(Gokyo to Phortse (3,860 m)7/8 hrs)
    We trek down to Phortse in a single long day. Instead of retracing the upward route, we follow the eastern side of the valley to gain different views of Khumbila. The route to Phortse retraces the upward journey to Pangka, then turns east and climbs across the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier to Na. The trail makes a few ups & downs and enters to Phortse.
  • Day 10(Phortse to Namche (3,440 m)- 4/5 hrs)
    The trail descends to Phunki Thanga and then ascends to the ridge towards Namche Bazzar. On arrival to Namche Bazzar, we have time of shopping and relax.
  • Day 11(Namche to Lukla (2,652m))
    We retrace our footsteps through Dudh kosi river and a beautiful and easy walk through pine and rhododendron forest and other splendid mountains views behinds us .we gradually walking the trail beside the river and the beautiful village we reach back again the Likla. Overnight at Lukla Guest House.
  • Day 12(Fly Back to Kathmandu (1,330 m))
    Early morning we board to the airport, through the domestic flight we come back in Kathmandu. On your arrival, we drop you to the hotel. You have leisure time. at evening, we will have a farewell dinner with cultural show.
  • Day 13(Leisure day, you can rest or explore Kathmandu valley)
    You will be spending the day on your own. You get to do your own thing today. If you are interested in recreational activities, you may visit Nepal Tourism Board at 10 minutes walk from Thamel where you will get information about all recreational activities. You will be meeting Red Carpet Tours & Travels representative(s) in the late evening, and they will be escorting you to a Nepali kitchen. Here you will be served with the best of the best Nepali culinary delights. So make sure that you have an empty stomach before you set foot at Nepali Bhancha Ghar. Overnight at Kathmandu. .
  • Day 14(Final day departure)
    Your trip comes to an end today! Our airport representative will take you to the airport approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight.
