Dhaulagiri Round Trek

Dhaulagiri Round Trek is one of the challenging and remote area treks leading us to western part of Nepal. We trek through high alpine pastures, higher passes and serene and uninhabited valleys.

Our journey starts after 6 hrs scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and next day we further drive to Beni from where we head for a north-westerly direction passing through several villages such as  Babichour, Dorbang and Darapani to Muri. From here we again head north still keeping to the banks of the Myagdi Khola until we reach at Dhaulagiri Base Camp. From Dhaulagiri Base Camp, we can see magnificent mountain views if weather permits. After Base camp, we climb steeply to the French Pass (5360m) and then we gently descend down to the village of Marpha. From Marpha we head for Jomsom to catch next day flight to Pokhara.

  • Day 8(Trek to Boghara (2050m))
From Muri the trail is easy and goes down for a few hours but before reching Boghara we have to climb a steep trail for a couple of hours.  The trail descends down before reaching Phedi and again the trail ascends up until Boghara. Overnight at camp
  • Day 9(Trek to Dhoban (2630m))

  • Day 12(Trek to Glacier camp (4250m))
After crossing the first glacier using a rope in a couple of tricky spots, we climb onto the main glacier. The surroundings are spectacular, which makes up for the rough and dangerous trail.  The glacier crossing would require the use of rope. Overnight at camp
  • Day 13(Trek to Dhaulagiri Base camp (4650m))
Today we reach the Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Soon the rough rubble gives way to the smooth ice of the white part of the glacier. We climb steadily to the rough and chilling path Dhaulagiri Base but on the way we enjoy the magnificent north face of Dhaulagiri I. Overnight at camp
  • Day 14(Acclimatization day)
We will be constantly trekking at an altitude of 5000 - 6000 m in for few more days. It is suggested that we should stay active by moving around even at the rest day instead of being idle.
  • Day 15(Trek to French Col: 4 hrs)
Getting off the glacier above the base camp often requires a rope, but once over the steep moraine walls we will be in a safer and gentler country. We reach to the top of French Col after a breathless climb.
  • Day 16(Hidden Valley Camp (5000m))
Make some rest. Acclimatize. Explore the surrounding peaks.
