Agriculture Tour

Agriculture tour, introduced by Red Carpet Tours & Travels (P) Ltd, provides the unique taste of adventure, better known as Agro Tour in Nepal. With abundant natural resources, Nepal makes Agro tourism more fascinating for visiting tourists. A part of the Agro tour involves acquaintance with the local farmers and working with them in the fields. Promoting and developing the lifestyle and economy of indigenous people of rural areas and showcasing new areas are the main aims of Agro tours. They also allow one to be in close contact with inhabitants of small rural villages actively involved in traditional agriculture observing the activities of the farmers in paddy fields or vegetable farms or understanding the techniques involved by farmers in Nepal.

Agro Tourism is a new trend of tourism recently developed contradictory to traditional tourism activity. It is co-related with eco-tourism. Travelers are encouraged to experience agricultural life at first hand. They find themselves a direct contact with nature, outside the frame of developed world and get an opportunity to experience local 'character' of rural life. Agro tourism activities help to boost the rural economy by staying at farmer's home, eat their locally prepared food, buy locally made agricultural and folk art products.

Learning about the harvesting of food grains, sorting and preservation, growing organic vegetables, processing of freshly picked fruits to jams, marmalades and pickles will be covered by the so called Agro Tour. Also one can see and understand how goats are milked or how cheese/butter is prepared. Every season is rich in its agricultural product; it provides a deep understanding to the visitors how farmers survive in this part of the universe.

Rice, wheat and maize are the major crops of Nepal. Rice-based cropping systems, with wheat or maize as a secondary crop, are predominant in the Terai and middle hills, whereas in the high mountains, maize, millet, barley and buckwheat are cultivated as major corps. Tea, cardamom, ginger and coffee are the important cash crops of the middle hills. Cattle like buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry are the livestock species supporting agricultural economy of Nepal.

It is an exhilarating view during summer time to witness farmers in the paddy fields for rice plantation. However, the methodologies followed for plantation and harvesting differs from one region to another. The laborious farmers turn their fields into an open arena singing local songs and exchanging funny remarks to avoid the sluggishness and sense of hard work. During winters, fields are adorned with wheat plants which start sprouting across the fields.

Meeting jovial, honest and hard working people in rural areas, sharing an indigenous meal with them, residing in their abode as their family guests and tasting their local drink, and seeing their wheel of life moving on graciously will give you immense pleasure and rejuvenate the enthusiasm in you. During this Agro Tour, you will also get a chance to witness the most spectacular views of natural landscapes, mountains and heritage sites that come across your way.
